A native of Guatemala, he obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Rafael Landivar University in Guatemala City in 1980. Subsequently, he enrolled at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he earned a Master of Law in common law studies in 1982. During this time, he began his career as an associate for Mayora & Mayora in Guatemala from 1980 to 1981, further progressing to the post of partner in 1982. Later, he worked at the Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala as a professor of business law and principles of law from 1984 to 1987, holding the same title in the School of Economics from 1986 to 1988.
Mr. Mayora later continued his academic efforts at the Universidad Francisco Marroquin and attained a diploma in economic foundations in 1991 and a diploma in economic analysis in 1992. In 1997, he achieved a Doctor of Laws from the same esteemed academic institution. Ultimately, he attended the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in Spain and earned a Master and Doctor in Pluralist, Public and Private Law in 2004.
Subsequently, Mr. Mayora obtained a Certificate of Achievement of the III Degree in French Language and Civilization Studies from the Alliance Francaise in 1978 and a Certificate of Attendance for English Language Advanced Level through the Angloschool in 1974. Notably, he speaks Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese. He is also certified as a Notary Public through the Universidad Rafael Landivar in 1980.
As he found success throughout his career, Mr. Mayora worked as professor of constitutional law and dean of the Universidad Francisco Marroquin School of Law from 1989 to 2000. He also served the university as a professor of the principles of private and public law in 1993. Overlapping with this work, he was a member of the Tax Administration Board with Mayora & Mayora from 1998 to 2000. From 1988 to 1996, he sat on the board of directors with the Financiera de Inversion.
Outside of his primary responsibilities, Mr. Mayora had maintained his involvement as an alternate director for Seguros Alianza S.A., in Guatemala from 1988 to 1994, as well as a visiting professor at University Catolica in Brazil in 1994 and Montpellier University School of the Law in France in 1995. Since 1989, he has been a trustee of the Universidad Francisco Marroquin. An expert in his field, he has contributed to publications in the field, including "Teoria Constitucional Para La Sociedad Libre," in 1997 and "El Imperio Del Derecho Y El Contencioso Administrativo En El Derecho Guatemalteco Y Comparado" in 2005. He has regularly contributed articles to the Guatemala Bar Association Law Journal since 1990.
An active presence in the field, Mr. Mayora maintains memberships with the Institute Guatemalteco de Derecho Notarial, the International Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association, the Guatemala Country Club, and the Club Rotario de la Ciudad de Guatemala. He is further associated with the Mont Pelerin Society, the Philadelphia Society, the Asociacion de Amigos del Pais, and its Cultural Foundation. He has sat on the board of directors with Financiera de Inversion, Banco Americano, Mont Pelerin Society, Lex Mundi, and Seguros Alianza.
Mr. Mayora has also held the title of president for such organizations as the Rotary Club, Rotaract Club, Instituto Guatemalteco de Derecho Notarial, and the Guatemala Bar Association's privatization committee. He was the vice president of the Guatemala Bar Association's ethics board from 1985 to 1986 and the Association de Amigos del Pais Fundacion para la Cultura in 1994, as well as second vice president of the Philadelphia Society from 2002 to 2003.
In light of his professional accomplishments, Mr. Mayora was named a Highly Ranked Attorney for Banking Finance and Corporate/M&A by LACCA in Guatemala. He has also been named a Leading Lawyer in the Practice Banking, a Leading Lawyer in Banking and Corporate Law, and a Recommended Lawyer in Banking and Finance and Fiscal.
