Harold Federow was named Volunteer of the Year by the City of Seattle for providing pro bono legal assistance to members of the community.

He enjoyed the fact that an individual could make policy when science and technology issues are important, noting that his early interest in becoming a physicist laid the groundwork to success in this type of environment. He boasts a scientific background from his education, which includes a Bachelor of Science in humanities, science and physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in physics from the University of Washington. He also achieved a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Maryland to round out his academic achievements and prepare him for a successful career.
Today, Mr. Federow excels as a contract vendor and IP manager for the Port of Seattle in Washington. He has held this role for the last 12 years and notes that he would not have come into this role had it not been for his previous experience. Mr. Federow came to prominence in positions including general counsel for Talyst Corporation, legal counsel for BSquare Corporation, associate director for the engineering and manufacturing management program at the University of Washington, and specialist for continuous quality improvement at the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company. Additionally, he served as vice president of the American Heritage Finance Corporation, the director of administration for Energy Sciences Corporation, and research instructor for social management technology at the University of Washington.
Mr. Federow is regarded in his industry for his involvement in civic projects and career-related events. He is a regular speaker of technology-related legal topics at the Association of Corporate Counsel Annual Meetings. He also served as chair of the IT, Privacy and eCommerce Network for the Association of Corporate Counsel, chair of the Conference on Law, War and Nuclear Policy in Seattle, and attorney for IP law students at the University of Washington School of Law. To remain at the top of his field, Mr. Federow is a member of the Washington Bar Association, the Seattle Intellectual Property Inn of Court and Sigma Pi Sigma. In light of his exceptional contributions to the industry, he was named Volunteer of the Year by the City of Seattle for providing pro bono legal assistance to members of the community.
