Dr. Williams has been an emergency room nurse at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro, TX, since 1999 and the owner of MTW Nursing Consultation and Margaret Hiett Williams, RN, CNS, in Whitney, TX, since 1996. A nurse for nearly 60 years, she formerly practiced at several different hospitals as a nurse, clinical nurse specialist and other roles. She was a field supervisor at We Care Home Health Agency in Midland, TX, clinical educator and supervisor at Glenwood in Midland and Nurse III at the Brown School in San Marcos, TX. Dr. Williams was also a reviewer for the National Council of Licensing Examiners and an adjunct professor at Pace University and Southwest Texas State University. She has also been a longtime content expert for the American Nurses Credentialing Center since 2000 and a reviewer in her field.

A member and past president of District 21 and 32 of the Texas Nurses Association, Dr. Williams is also affiliated as a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the Emergency Nurses Association and the Parkland Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association. She is active with the Texas Woman's University Alumnae Association, the Midland High School Alumni, Mensa International and the Lockhart Breakfast Lions Club as well. Dr. Williams was recently elected as the Midland County Democratic Party chair in 2018. She formerly served on the steering committee of Governor Richards' Executive Leadership Council from 1991 to 1995.

In honor of her dedication to the field of nursing, Dr. Williams was named to Texas Woman's University Great 100 Nurses and Ladies First of Midland in 1974, and she received an Isabelle Hampton-Robb Award from the National League for Nursing in 1976. She has also been cited in approximately 25 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Nursing and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. In honor of her local involvement, Dr. Williams received an Achievement Award from the Community Leaders of America.

Inspired by her mother, a former first aid teacher, to pursue a career in health care, Dr. Williams remembers seeing the many army nurses in town after World War II. Just 3 years old at the time, her desire to become a nurse only grew stronger in time. During high school, she became a nurses' aid, giving bed baths, changing beds and transporting patients. She also volunteered as a candy striper at a local hospital. Once she graduated, she attended Texas Woman's University, where she completed a Bachelor of Science. She then earned a Master of Arts and Master of Education at the Teachers College, followed by postgraduate coursework at Teachers College, the University of Texas and the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Williams holds multiple credentials, including as a certified clinical nurse specialist, psychiatric/mental health nursing.
