Dr. Gordon Henry Theilen is often referred to as the "Father of Veterinary Cancer Medicine."

In addition to his primary appointments in veterinary education, Dr. Theilen was also active with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the World Health Organization committee on staging tumors in animals, the American Association for Cancer Research, the International Association for Comparative Research and Related Diseases, and the Veterinary Cancer Society.
Throughout his career, Dr. Theilen has contributed numerous books and scientific articles to professional journals and served as a speaker at several industry events. He was the keynote speaker at the 3rd World Veterinary Cancer Congress in Foz de Iguassu, Brazil, was a faculty guest speaker at the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, and the lead speaker for the 20th anniversary of the Comparative Center of Medicine. As a testament to his professional prowess, Dr. Theilen received the Person of the Year Award from the American Field Nominating Committee, the Nominating Committee Japanese Prize, was inducted into the Brittany Club Hall of Fame, and was named a lifetime member of the Northern California Brittany Club. In order to remain current with developments in his field, he maintains affiliation with the American Veterinary Medicine Association, the American Association of Veterinary Clinics, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Cancer Research Institute, the Veterinary Cancer Society, Phi Zeta, and Sigma Xi.
Dr. Theilen holds a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, both from the University of California, Davis.
