Mary Brodbeck Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    KALAMAZOO, MI, May 15, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mary Brodbeck with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Brodbeck celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Inspired by nature, artist Ms. Brodbeck specializes in the woodblock medium. Creating images of land and sea in her studio by implementing various languages of shape, color and texture, her work can be found in the permanent collection at the Detroit Institute of Arts, as well as in numerous private collections. Some of her pieces over the years have included "Sleeping Bear Dunes Portfolion," a series of 10 color woodblock prints, "East Meets West Print Exchange" where she participated in and organized a 120-piece exhibition, and "Reflections of Superior," as the artist and coordinator of works based upon circumnavigation of Lake Superior. Ms. Brodbeck also recently produced a 35-minute documentary called "Becoming Made," which later earned her a Best Short Film Competition Award in 2015.

Boasting a background that previously included industrial design work as a furniture designer for many years, Ms. Brodbeck also notably served as a consultant and interior designer for Steelcase, Inc. in Grand Rapids Mich. Eventually pursuing additional training to change directions professionally, she completed a five-month fellowship to learn Japanese woodblock printmaking in Tokyo under Yoshisuke Funasaka, which she eventually began teaching in 1998. A guest lecturer and instructor in her own right, Ms. Brodbeck will soon be offering summer workshops in 2019.

Ms. Brodbeck currently has one exhibition on display since September 14, which is running until November 3, 2018. The "Block-Paper-Ink" printmaking show is located at Charlevoix Circle of Arts in Charlevoix, Mich. Her upcoming exhibition, "Then and Now: Keeping Japanese Woodblock Printmaking Alive," is scheduled for presentation from February 18, 2019 through March 15, 2019 at the Saginaw Valley State University's University Art Gallery in Saginaw, Mich.

Ms. Brodbeck holds seven U.S. patents for her furniture designs, which were issued to her in the early 1990s. Between 2000 and 2014, she was the recipient of more than 30 awards and recognitions for her work. Some of her more recent honors include a 2018 Community Medal of Arts Award from the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo and a 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University, as well as multiple first, second and third place and cash prize awards. In 2017, Ms. Brodbeck excelled in the Loeschner Art Competition at the Frederik Meijer Garden and Sculpture Park.

Involved in her local community, Ms. Brodbeck spent several years as a member of the Douglas Planning Commission from 1995 to 1998. She also served as a volunteer leader for Campfire Girls in Douglas between 1988 and 1989.

She has been cited in several editions of Who's Who of American Women between 1997 and 2007. Ms. Brodbeck has held a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Michigan State University since 1982 and an Master of Fine Arts from Western Michigan University since 1999.
