Renowned as an experimental pathologist, Dr. Ross has excelled in the cancer diagnostics field for more than 25 years. She has served as the vice president of diagnostics at Nexell Therapeutics in Irvine, Calif. from 1998 to 2001, developing cell therapy products for the treatment of genetic blood disorders, autoimmune diseases, cancer and regenerative medicine applications through biotechnology. During her tenure with the organization, Dr. Ross has further worked as the senior vice president of scientific affairs.

Dr. Ross is the former director of diagnostic applications at Cell Pro Inc. and the former director of research and development at Biologic and Immunologic Science Laboratories in Reseda, Calif. She also found success as an associate director of research at the Institute of Cancer and Blood Research in Beverly Hills, Calif. Dr. Ross also flourished as a research assistant and an associate at the University of Southern California (USC) as well as an associate biologist at the California Institute of Technology.

During her extensive career, Dr. Ross's research has focused on the detection of low numbers of tumor cells in the circulation of cancer patients as a means of targeting early relapse. Some of her greatest achievements have been in the development of a post-embedding, ultrastructural immunocytochemical technique for analyzing archival pathology specimens and the development of an in vitro tumor cell clonogenic assay for metastatic breast cancer. Holding three patents in the United States, Dr. Ross's research has resulted in her contributions as an author and a co-author of over 75 scientific publications.

A member and past president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Association of Women in Science, Dr. Ross is also a longtime member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Appointed as an advisor to the scientific advisory board for the Michelson Prize and Grants Foundation, she has maintained her involvement on the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors, where she held the post of the president from 2014 to 2015. Furthermore, Dr. Ross is active as a member of Town and Gown of USC, the Women of Troy and the USC Trojan Society of Hospitals. Dr. Ross was elected to the USC Board of Trustees in 2015.

For more than three decades, Dr. Ross has been heavily and proudly involved with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Most impressively, she was responsible for co-founding the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals. She was one of the founding members of the USC Lambda LGBT Alumni Association in 1992. Additionally, Dr. Ross has provided her expertise on such subjects as LGBT perspectives on AIDS research, the biology of sexual orientation, and LGBT diversity and inclusion in the sciences through presentations at national and international scientific meetings.

Dr. Ross has earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychobiology from California State University, Northridge in 1981 and a Doctor of Philosophy in experimental pathology from the Keck School of Medicine at the USC in 1986. Moreover, she notably endows the Amy Ross Scholarship in LGBT Health Studies at the USC. Throughout her career, Dr. Ross has been featured in nearly a dozen editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
