For more than 40 years, Ms. Elkins-Lang offered her distinct brand of expertise as a dedicated educator throughout Mobile, Alabama. Prior to embarking upon her professional path, she obtained a Bachelor of Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1948. Subsequently, Ms. Elkins-Lang earned certificates from Alabama State University, Springhill College and the University of Southern Alabama between 1951 and 1975.

Ms. Elkins-Lang began her career as a secretary and librarian at Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida. Following these appointments, she found success as a teacher at Whitley Elementary School from 1950 to 1951, Theodore Junior High School in 1952, and Williamson High School from 1957 to 1989. Upon retiring as an educator, Ms. Elkins-Lang excelled as a sales associate for Alabama Real Estate in 1989.

As a testament to her professional prowess, Ms. Elkins-Lang was recognized as the Teacher of the Year by the faculty at Williamson High School in 1985. Civically, she was active in her community with the Black Women's Resource Network. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, typewriting, dance, travel, and sports. In order to remain aware of developments in her former fields, Ms. Elkins-Lang maintains her affiliation with the Retired Teachers Association, the Future Business Leaders of America, the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical Alumni Association, and Alabama Computer Career Educators.
