ONEONTA, NY, May 30, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Shirley J. S. Fioravanti with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Fioravanti celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Fioravanti is a retired language educator who first taught Spanish at North Rose-Wolcott Central School District in New York between 1952 and 1958. She then spent another three years at Shaker High School in Latham, New York, before she was hired to teach at State University of New York, Oneonta, as an associate professor of Spanish in 1961. Ms. Fioravanti taught at SUNY Oneonta and remained a faculty member for nearly 30 years before retiring in 1990.

Teaching for the Center of Continuing Adult Learning in Oneonta for the past 25 years, since 1994, Ms. Fioravanti has also been on the center's advisory board since 2002. A former vice president of the National Federation of Republican Women, she remains active as a member of the League of Women Voters and as a longtime member of the Garden Club of America and the Order of the Eastern Star. Ms. Fioravanti also served as Elder in her Presbyterian church from 1975 to 1978. She hosted a Nigerian student who attended the college.

In honor of her work, Ms. Fioravanti has been showcased in the 63rd edition of Who's Who in America, the 25th and 27th editions of Who's Who of American Women and the seventh edition of Who's Who in American Education. She has notably held a Bachelor of Arts from the University at Albany in New York since 1952 and a Master of Arts from Syracuse University in New York since 1957. A licensed teacher in the state of New York, Ms. Fioravanti later completed postgraduate coursework at Syracuse University as well.

While in college, Ms. Fioravanti was the first one to teach Spanish on campus. She was also responsible for building a Spanish literature collection because there was nothing available in the library at that time. Ordering and organizing the materials, she did everything necessary to establish a solid library collection. Furthermore, Ms. Fioravanti also started an honor society at the college that would host luncheons for parents on Sunday afternoons where students were honored. The society has since become a nationally recognized honor society for foreign language college students.

Born in Oneida, New York, Ms. Fioravanti grew up with a passion for languages and in the sixth grade wanted to become a translator for the United Nations. She was also very influenced by Spanish music, which was very popular while she was growing up. She fondly recalls visiting Spain and the friends she made there – it was always a high point of her life. Today, she resides in Oneonta, not far from where she previously taught. Spending many happy years married to the late Joseph A. Fioravanti, she is the mother of five children and grandmother of 13 grandchildren. In retirement, Ms. Fioravanti enjoys reading and traveling.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ms. Fioravanti has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
