LOS ANGELES, CA, June 04, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Olga A. Walden, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Walden celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Walden retired from education in 1997 after more than 40 years of dedication to the field. A professor emeritus at California State University in Los Angeles, she was first taken on board in 1972 as an assistant professor in the music department where she later rose to associate and full professor. From 1980 to 1983, she served as Associate Dean in the School of Fine and Applied Art, which included the Music Department. She also spent three years teaching music history and theory at Pasadena City College in California, beginning in 1973. Prior to teaching at the college level, Dr. Walden was a music instructor at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles from 1957 to 1972 and the R. L. Stevenson Middle School in Los Angeles from 1954 to 1957. Getting her first taste of higher education in 1957, Dr. Walden taught voice lessons at the Los Angeles City College until 1964.

Since retiring, Dr. Walden spent time as a diction coach for the Los Angeles Opera in 2005 and as a visiting professor at Pomona College in 2003. She was also a visiting professor of musicology at Claremont University in the graduate school during 1986, 1995, 1998 and 2002. Contributing many articles to music reviews and professional publications, she served on the editorial board for the Journal of the Arnold Schoenberg Institute from 1974 to 1981 and was a translator for various German-English articles. Impressively, Dr. Walden speaks English, German, French and Italian.

A former president, vice president, secretary and elected counselor of the Pacific Southwest chapter of the American Musicology Society and former board president of Friends of Music at California State University, Dr. Walden has also been involved with several other professional organizations. She is a life member of the College Music Society and a longtime member of the National Education Association, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Kappa Lambda. Locally involved as well, she served on the board of directors of the Neighborhood Music School and the Glendale Chamber Orchestra and was the vice president, the newsletter editor and a member of the board of directors for the Pacific Contemporary Music Center. Additionally, Dr. Walden spent time a substitute soloist for First Church of Christ Scientist in Alhambra, California, as well.

Ever since Dr. Walden was a little girl she knew that she wanted to become a teacher. She would line up her dolls on the sofa and teach to them. Growing up in Germany, she had several teachers that she was very fond of that also inspired her. Eventually, an aunt of hers, who was living in the America, encouraged Dr. Walden's mother to leave Germany for the United States. Bringing with her the love for music and the arts, as well as for languages, her family made their way over in 1952. Two years later, in 1954, she received a Bachelor of Music at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, followed by a Master of Music in 1957 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1970. Dr. Walden holds a secondary teaching credential, an elementary credential and a special secondary in music credential.

A music scholar through the Ebell Club from 1953 to 1954, Dr. Walden was also a Fulbright grantee in Venice, Italy, from 1966 to 1967. Between 1974 and 1976, she received two institutional grants from California State University. Honored with a Trustees' Outstanding Professor Award from California State University System in 1990, she has since been featured in close to 30 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Entertainment and Who's Who in the World. Dr. Walden noted that her proudest moments, however, weren't the accolades she received, but the gratitude she felt in knowing that her students benefited from her teachings and hearing about their accomplishments years after leaving her classroom.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Walden has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
