Cytowic, MD, MFA, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Cytowic celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Cytowic has been a clinical professor of neurology at George Washington University since 2005. In addition to his primary role, he has served as a staff reviewer for the New York Journal of Books since 2013. Four percent of the population is born with two or more senses hooked together so that otherwise normal individuals not only hear music or someone's voice, for example, but simultaneously see it, taste it, or feel it as a physical touch. Perceiving the days of the week, the alphabet, or numerals as colored are common manifestations. Earlier in his career, he was president of Capitol Neurology in Washington from 1981 to 2010.

Dr. Cytowic began his career as a student at Duke University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 1973. He subsequently received a 1977 Doctor of Medicine from Wake Forest University and completed postgraduate study in neurology and neuropsychology at University College London and George Washington University. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from American University in 2011.

A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Cytowic has been an active leader in his community. A fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, he is a member of the International Association of Synesthetes, Artists and Scientists, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the International Neuropsychological Society, and the International Society for the History of the Neurosciences. He has been a ten-time fellow of the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, and a fellow of the Southampton Writers Conference, the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Artist Fellowship, and the Hambridge Center for Creative Arts. Likewise, he was an artist fellow of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities in 2014 and 2019.

Throughout his career, Dr. Cytowic has been recognized for his contributions, including having been a nominee for the Pulitzer Prize in 1982. He was the recipient of the Montaigne Medal in 2011 and the Irwin Brody Award for the History of Neuroscience in 1978. He has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
