Louis "Lou" Gerber Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Gerber has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of politics and non-profit

FALLS CHURCH, VA, June 05, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Louis "Lou" Gerber with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Gerber celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A retired legislative director and registered lobbyist for the Communications Workers of America in Washington, D.C., Mr. Gerber worked for the organization for 38 years before retiring in 2010. With a career as an activist that dates to 1970, he worked as a legislative assistant/speechwriter in Congress for former Sen. Stephen M. Young (D-OH) and former Representative Bertram L. Podell (D-NY). He also served as a legislative consultant to the Joint Committee on Congressional Operations. Mr. Gerber spent another six years as a senior fellow at the Food Research and Action Center in Washington, between 2010 and 2016. A non-profit organization, the Food and Research Action Center is working to eradicate poverty-related hunger and undernutrition in the United States.

Throughout much of his career, Mr. Gerber has been an activist within his community. During the time that he was a member of the legislative staff of the Communications Workers of America, he served on the AFL-CIO's Administrative Committee on Legislation. He advocated the enactment of legislation to raise wages, improve employment conditions, and uplift the quality of life of working families. Mr. Gerber was instrumental in including in the Deficit Reduction Act of 1984 legislation to protect the net credited service rights of more than 500,000 telecommunications workers who were adversely affected by the divestiture of AT&T.

Mr. Gerber is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the board of directors of the Congressional Hunger Center and Americans for Democratic Action. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Jewish Labor Committee. An accomplished writer in his field, he has also contributed several chapters to books. For all his achievements, he received a Special Recognition Award for Anti-Hunger Work from the Food Research and Action Center in 2004. Furthermore, Mr. Gerber was recognized with a feature in the 26th edition of Who's Who in the East.

Having always been interested in politics and legislation, Mr. Gerber became involved in his profession due to growing up in Washington, D.C., during a time where there was no federal representation for the city. Prior to embarking on his career, he pursued an education at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government in 1966. Following this accomplishment, Mr. Gerber went on to obtain a Master of Arts from the University of Maryland in College Park in 1969.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Mr. Gerber has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
