With more than 50 years of professional experience, Ms. Halsted is University Carillonist and Associate Professor Emeritus of the School of Music, Theater and Dance at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. She previously was adjunct associate professor with the University of California Santa Barbara from 2008 to 2018. She also worked from carillonneur and assistant professor to associate professor at the University of Michigan from 1987 to 2003, when she attained emeritus status, and a lecturer with the University of California Riverside from 1977 to 1987. Earlier in her career, she was an associate carillonneur with Stanford University from 1967 to 1977.

Ms. Halsted is a renowned player of the cast bell carillon, an instrument that began over 500 years ago in the low countries of Europe. A carillon consists of a keyboard and at least 23 bells in a tower, but today's concert instruments have 47 or 48 bells. Ms. Halsted is an honorary member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America, where she previously served as board member and committee chair. She has performed many recitals in the United States and in other countries. Impressively, she was noted for the discovery of two historic carillon manuscripts in Belgium early on in her career.

Ms. Halsted began her career as a student at Stanford University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. She continued her studies with the university, earning a Master of Arts in 1965. A certified community college teacher in the state of California, Ms. Halsted also holds a diploma from the Netherlands Carillon School.

Throughout her career, Ms. Halsted has been recognized for her achievements. She has received Bell and Citation Awards from the World Carillon Federation, and the University of California, Berkeley, gave her the Berkeley Medal. Notably, she received the Extraordinary Service Certificate from the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America in 1997. She has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
