Prior to this position, she worked as a staff nurse in the mother and baby unit at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, from 2008 to 2016 and as a graduate assistant at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. She also previously worked as a medical office nurse for David Wolfson, MD, in Rockville Centre, New York, between 1989 and 1995 and as an assistant nursing care coordinator and staff nurse at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center between 1985 and 1995. During her career, Ms. Weiss also served as a patient educator for the Tokos Medical Corp. in Garden City, New York, and co-chaired the Clinical Ladder Board.
Authoring numerous professional articles over the years, Ms. Weiss recently published "The Pandemonium of PANDAS: An Unprecedented Pediatric Disorder" in Nurse Advisor Magazine in 2018. That same year, she gave a poster presentation at the 14th Annual Leadership and Research Conference of the Adelphi College of Nursing and Public Health and Sigma Theta Tau International, which was titled "The Effectiveness of the Naltrexone Implant in the Treatment of Drug Dependence: A Literature Review." In 2015, Ms. Weiss published her first children's book "In a Pickle Over PANDAS."
Earning a Bachelor Science in nursing in 1985, Ms. Weiss recently completed a Master of Science in nursing administration at Adelphi University in 2019. Holding multiple certifications, including in basic life support, maternal newborn nursing and as a professional childbirth educator, she is an international board certified lactation consultant and a certified holistic nurse as well. A licensed professional nurse in the state of New York, Ms. Weiss maintains affiliation with the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the International Nurses Association, the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, and Toastmasters International, among other organizations.
For her work in healthcare, Ms. Weiss received a Nurse Professionalism Award from Northwell Health in 2016, a Spotlight Award from Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1993 and several Certificates of Recognition for Patient Education between 1992 and 1993. In 2016, she was also honored with a Silver Medal from the Eighth Annual Living Now Book Awards and received a Finalist Medal in children's and juvenile nonfiction from the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, a Reader's Favorite 5-Star Review, and a Bronze Medal in health, medicine and nutrition by the eLit Book Awards. Furthermore, Ms. Weiss was a finalist in the 10th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards and in the International Book Awards, in the children's educational category, in 2016.
