BRONX, NY, June 13, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Karen Michelle Gilliam Asare with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Asare celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Asare celebrates a successful career in education that spans more than 40 years. Originally teaching for the Women's Prison Association in New York, a non-profit organization and the oldest advocacy group for women in the United States, for one year between 1977 and 1978, she later taught at St. Augustine's School in the Bronx for another 33 years until the school closed its doors in 2011. Still teaching today, Ms. Asare has been a tenured adjunct instructor in the Educational Opportunity Center at the State University of New York since 1989. The center notably provides career training, high school equivalency preparation, college readiness classes and college and financial aid application assistance, among other benefits. Furthermore, Ms. Asare has been an elementary reading and mathematics teacher at RT Hudson School for grades 2 to 7 from 2011 to 2012 and Harriet Tubman Charter School in the Bronx since 2012. She appeared on 60 Minutes as she taught a reading lesson on the book A Tale of Two Cities to students.

A little over 20 years ago, Ms. Asare contributed to a book titled "Something Within Me." The book has since become a documentary. Released in 1993, it is the story of St. Augustine's School, where Ms. Asare once worked, and the numerous academic, behavior and enrollment issues it faced and how the administrators decided to emphasize musical training as a key component to academic success. She also introduced the reading curriculum at St. Augustine that consisted of novels, classics and Shakespearean plays instead of basal readers.

A certified teacher in the state of New York, Ms. Asare is an alumnus of Hunter College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in education. Ms. Asare is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Reading Reform Foundation, the National Catholic Educational Association and the Professional Staff Congress. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been featured in approximately 15 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who of American Women.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Ms. Asare has been happily married to her husband William Kofi since 1977. She has one child, Anton, and two grandchildren, Alexis and Aiden. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, art and creative writing.
