Backed by more than 30 years of professional excellence with broad, in-depth and specialized experience in capacities of health care provider, patient and caregiver. He has served in staffing, management, clinical and direct-patient care within numerous health-system pharmacy positions, long-term care, retail and independent consulting roles. His training includes ASHP PGY-1 residency with Medical University of South Carolina, Director-In-Training with Methodist Hospitals, Gary/Merrillville, IN and Administrative Resident Consultant with Berman & Berman Behavioral Healthcare Consultants. Earlier in his career, he gained valuable expertise in the field with Northern Nursing Home Pharmacy in Baltimore, MD and the Greater Baltimore Medical Center during 1987-1997. Although his career has been filled with highlights; he is especially proud of implementing a ScriptPro® Robotic Automated Pharmacy Dispensing System for a local Veterans Affairs Medical Center. His career has been further highlighted thru work as clinical coordinator/assistant director of pharmacy services with MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center (SMHC). Dr. Zimmerman served in dual roles as noted and was involved with inpatient pharmacy operations and numerous clinical management activities. His responsibilities included handling drug distribution/automation, overseeing clinical consult reports, leading resolution of medication related problems, evaluating patient adverse drug reactions, developing policies and procedures promoting safe medication management through use of evidence-based literature, best-practice protocols, and other quality improvement initiatives; overseeing the development and maintenance processes for formulary review, medication use evaluations, therapeutic/automatic drug substitution protocols, and drug information resources. Dr. Zimmerman maintained an active role with Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Pathways Committee, Anticoagulation/Antithrombosis, Infection Control, Critical Care, Psych and other multidisciplinary committees. Dr. Zimmerman lead and coordinated development of clinical projects, communicates directly with physicians, nurses, hospitalists, and other health care providers regarding patient drug therapy through patient chart reviews and analysis of assorted target drug programs. Dr. Zimmerman serves as teacher, role model, and project advisor to pharmacy students and maintains familiarity with all departmental programs and serves as integral pharmacy team facilitator/leader.

An expert in his field, Dr. Zimmerman holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Temple University and a Master of Health Services Administration from The George Washington University, which he earned in 1983 and 1995, respectively. Notably, he also holds a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree with Certificate of Recognition, Academic Merit 2006 from the University of Kansas. Dr. Zimmerman is a gentleman and scholar with writings housed in academic files. Dr. Zimmerman has contributed a plethora of research articles and presentations including "COPD Patient Case Management," "Diabetes Patient Case Management," "The Marketing, Financing and Development of a For-Profit Hospital-Based Ambulatory Pharmacy," "Continuous Improvement Process for Oncology Pharmacy Services" and "Mastering Self-Leadership: Empowering Matt Zimmerman for Personal Excellence." Furthermore, Dr. Zimmerman holds numerous certificates of advanced training in physical assessment, formulary management, immunizations, diabetes, anticoagulation management and value-based patient care services including medication therapy management. Currently, Dr. Zimmerman has continued his professional career development with the "Pharmapreneur Academy" whereby he utilizes his expertise to improve member services, advance clinical pharmacy practice roles of member pharmacists, while continuing his own professional development as a future independent clinical pharmacy consultant with specialized expertise in direct patient care management and medication therapy management (MTM) services.
