Alexander W. Schneider Jr. PE, FIEEE was elevated to Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2018.

Schneider, Jr., PE, FIEEE, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Schneider celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. With 48 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. Schneider most recently served as a consultant for Quanta Technology LLC from 2012 until his retirement in 2016. He began his professional career serving in various engineering and statistics positions at Commonwealth Edison in Chicago in 1968, remaining with the company for the next 24 years. He then worked as a reliability engineer at Mid-America Interconnected Network (MAIN) in Lombard, Illinois from 1992 to 1996. After an additional two years at Commonwealth Edison, he again worked at MAIN from 1998 to 2005. Following this, Mr. Schneider consulted for TRC Solutions from 2006 to 2012.

Mr. Schneider was influenced in his choice of profession by family expectations, as his father was a chemical engineer and his maternal grandfather was a civil engineer. He received his professional education at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1967 and a Master of Science in 1968. He then attended the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago, where he obtained a Master of Business Administration in 1972. In addition, he has been a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois since 1972. His expertise is in power system planning, with emphasis on stability analysis and electromagnetic transient studies.

Mr. Schneider has contributed over a dozen articles to engineering journals and co-authored a chapter, "Power System Stability", with Professor Peter Sauer in the fourth edition of The Handbook of Electric Power Calculations by H. Wayne Beaty and Suryia Santoso. He was elevated to Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2018. He chaired the Analytic Methods in Power Systems committee of the IEEE Power and Energy Society from 2017 to 2018.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Schneider was honored with the First Use Award by the Electric Power Research Institute in 1985. Moreover he was selected for inclusion in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.

Civically, Mr. Schneider has served as an elder for his local Presbyterian church and volunteered at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois. He attained Eagle Scout rank in his youth and remained active in adult leadership roles for many years, and was honored with the District Award of Merit by the Boy Scouts of America in 1992.

Now in retirement, Mr. Schneider resides in Illinois with his wife of 47 years, Lauretta Ann Gerretse, with whom he has raised two sons, Alexander III and James. Additionally he is grandfather to three grandchildren, Garren, Lauren and James Jr.
