Mathew Thall Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

With more than 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Thall has been the principal of Mathew Thall Consulting since 2006, where he has served as Interim Executive Director or Interim COO for five community development corporations serving Boston neighborhoods. Prior to establishing this firm, he was Senior Program Director for the Greater Boston Program of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) from 1991 to 2006. At LISC he designed and implemented the CDC capitalization program which provided equity and working capital lines of credit to effective but under-capitalized community development organizations. Additionally he was instrumental in designing and funding a decade long initiative to align community organizing and real estate development work of CDCs and to assist the nonprofit clients of LISC to expand their work from affordable housing development into community economic development. Mr. Thall was the first Executive Director of Fenway Community Development Corporation from 1981 to 1991, where he managed and oversaw the development of some 250 units of mixed income housing. He was the assistant to the director of planning and development at Cambridge Housing Authority from 1978 to 1981. From 1977 to 1978, he was a planner and court-appointed master in the ground-breaking Perez vs. Boston Housing Authority lawsuit Early career positions included research associate at the Laboratory for Psychosocial Studies at Boston College from 1975 to 1976 and Housing Management Specialist with the Newark Area Office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 1971 to 1973.

Mr. Thall began his career as a student at Columbia University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1971 At Columbia he led a successful student-faculty campaign to establish an Urban Studies major at Columbia College. He continued his studies with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Master of City Planning in 1975.

He has served as director or officer of numerous non-profit organization boards including The Cooperative Housing Task Force/Association for Resident Controlled Housing, the Coalition for Occupied Homes in Foreclosure, the Mel King Institute for Community Building, the Massachusetts Association of Housing Cooperatives, the AIDS Housing Corporation, Citizens Housing and Planning Association, the Fenway Education and Neighborhood Support Fund, Fenway Community Development Corporation and the Fensgate (housing) Cooperative Corporation.

Throughout his career, Mr. Thall has been recognized for his contributions. The recipient of the Neighborhood Leadership Award from the Boston Rainbow Coalition, he received an Outstanding Student Award from the American Institute of City Planners and the Mel King Institute Leadership Appreciation Award. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in the East.
