Joel J. Orosz, PhD Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Orosz has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of philanthropy

KALAMAZOO, MI, June 17, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Joel J. Orosz, PhD with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Orosz celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After immersing himself in the field of philanthropy for nearly 40 years, Dr. Orosz has invested much of his time and energy in equipping others to enjoy their own success through the use of charitable grants. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in history from Kalamazoo College in 1979, he served as curator of interpretation at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum between 1983 and 1986. He had his first exposure to grants during this time, being the recipient of one himself, and it did not take long before he gained more direct experience under the guidance of Dr. Russell G. Mawby at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as his executive assistant. Soon appointed as the philanthropy and volunteerism program director for the foundation, Dr. Orosz played an intricate role in making and dispensing grants to worthy organizations until 2001. A year before he departed from the foundation, he reflected on his experiences through his book "The Insider's Guide to Grantmaking" in 2000.

Dr. Orosz subsequently worked at Grand Valley State University, building a prolific career for himself as a distinguished professor of philanthropic studies. During his time in academia, he collaborated with the Johnson Center for Philanthropy to establish the Grantmaking School, for which he was the director from 2004 to 2009. Comparing the current state of his vocation to that of a medieval trade guild, Dr. Orosz maintains the conviction that philanthropy is a profession with teachable principles of good practice. Through the Grantmaking School, he hopes to have provided students with the resources they need to animate and inspire the success of others.

Conscious of his civic duty, Dr. Orosz has been associated with numerous organizations related to his field, including the Michigan Community Service Commission, for which he held the post of commissioner between 1991 and 2000. He further contributed as principal of Inside Philanthropy Consulting from 2001 to 2011. In the realm of charity, Dr. Orosz serves on the resource council of the Turn 2 Foundation and the boards of the Burton H. and Elizabeth S Upjohn Charitable Trust, and the Guido and Elizabeth Binda Foundation.

Adjacent to his focus on charity, Dr. Orosz is an avid student of history, having earned both a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in that discipline from Case Western Reserve University. With a particular passion for numismatics, the study of money, he has been presented with the Heath Literary Award on three occasions, an honor extended by the American Numismatic Association in recognition of excellent writing in that field. Additionally, he is the author of "The Eagle That Is Forgotten: Pierre Eugene Du Simitière, Founding Father of American Numismatics," in 1988.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Orosz has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
