Hardin, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Hardin celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. With nearly 40 years of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Hardin has been recognized as professor emeritus of the University of South Carolina since 1998. Joining the university in 1969, he worked as a professor of German literature and comparative literature for nearly three decades. Notably, he is an accomplished writer and editor in his field and was co-founder of Camden House in 1979. A publisher of academic books on German literature, culture, film and history, Camden House has also grown to encompass American literary criticism and cultural history. In 1998, the publishing house became an imprint of the British publisher Boydell & Brewer.

The author of numerous books, Dr. Hardin served as the editor of 18 volumes of a book series on German literature published by Gale. He has also acted as the editor of the book series "Understanding Modern European and Latin American Literature," published by The University of South Carolina Press, since the 1970s. A regular contributor of articles to professional journals and magazines, Dr. Hardin has written works on such key writers as Hermann Broch. Johann Beer, Franz Kafka, Thomas Mann, Eric Maria Remarque and numerous others. His edition of outstanding essays, Reflection and Action: Essays on the Bildungsroman, was published by the University of South Carolina Press in 1991.

Dr. Hardin was the editor of the Baroque picaresque novel "Der Verliebte Oesterreicher" (1700) by Johann Beer. He wrote the monograph "Johann Beer" in 1983 and "Johann Beer: Eine Beschreibende Bibliogrpahie" in 1984. He published a bibliography of works by the Baroque writer Christian Gryphius" in 1985. He later published "J.C. Ettner Bibliographie" in 1988 and "Goethe's Wilhelm Meister's Travels" in 1991. Dr. Hardin's edition of significant articles on the German Bildungsroman appeared in Dictionary of Literary Bibliography in 2019.

Alongside his primary career endeavors, Dr. Hardin also spent time as the president of Camden House Publishing, Inc. Furthermore, he was active as a consultant in his field for some time. In an effort to remain up to date with developments in his field, he maintains affiliation with several professional organizations. He is a member of the Modern Language Association, the South Atlantic Modern Language Association and the Goethe Society. Early on, Dr. Hardin also served as lieutenant then captain in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969.

Dr. Hardin initially pursued an education at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in 1960. He subsequently continued postgraduate coursework at the Free University of Berlin from 1960 to 1961 on a Fulbright scholarship. He continued his studies with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in 1967. Dr. Hardin continued his academic efforts on an Alexander von Humboldt scholarship at the Technical University of Berlin in 1974 in cooperation with the renowned professor Hans-Gert Roloff.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hardin has been celebrated for his contributions to the field. First recognized as a Fulbright scholar from 1960 to 1961, he was later presented with the Russell Award for Scholarship in 1979. He is particularly proud of receiving the Alexander von Humboldt Award from 1974 to 1975. More recently, he was the recipient of the German-American Friendship Award in 2004. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Hardin has previously been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.

Currently residing in Greenville, South Carolina, Dr. Hardin has been married to Anne Farr Hardin since 1983. An accomplished educator, Anne Hardin holds a Doctor of Philosophy in music education and a performance certificate in trumpet from the University of South Carolina. She is the former Editor of the International Trumpet Guild Journal, a position she held for 18 years. She received their prestigious ITG Award of Merit in 2007. The author of two music bibliographies and the co-author of Inside John Haynie's Studio, Anne Hardin has also edited a number of science fiction books. She compiled and submitted the successful portfolio nomination that won science fiction author Ray Bradbury the Pulitzer Special Citation in 2007.
