Dr. Bobby L. Wilson currently serves as the L. Lloyd Woods Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Shell Oil Endowed Chaired Professor of Environmental Toxicology at Texas Southern University.

An environmental chemist and academic administrator, Dr. Wilson currently serves as the L. Lloyd Woods Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Shell Oil Endowed Chaired Professor of Environmental Toxicology at Texas Southern University, Houston, TX. Since 1976, he has held numerous roles at the university, including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, Associate Dean, Interim Dean, Chair of the Chemistry Department, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Provost, and Acting President. Earlier in his career, Dr. Wilson taught at Jefferson Davis High School and Booker T. Washington High School in Montgomery, AL.

During his time with the Texas Southern University, Dr. Wilson also served as a Visiting Research Professor ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, Baytown, TX from 1982-1983 and a Program Director at the National Science Foundation, Washington, D.C. from 1996 until 1997. In addition to his work in education, he has had his research published on dozens of occasions, given more than 100 presentations to his industry peers, over 50 publications in peer reviewed Journals and advised over fifty MS and Ph.D. theses and dissertations. Dr. Wilson has also served as a Consultant for Houston Community College, Sam Houston State University, Alabama State University and many others.

Dr. Wilson honed his expertise in chemistry through a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Alabama State University in 1966. Continuing his studies, he went on to obtain a Master of Science in Chemistry from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1972 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry from Michigan State University in 1976. Throughout his career, he has retained professional affiliation with the American Chemical Society, National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers, where he became Chair of the Executive Board in 2005, as well as with the Texas Association of College Teachers, the American Institute of Chemists and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

With decades of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Wilson authored the General Chemistry Laboratory I Manual, the General Chemistry Laboratory 2 Manual and various articles in professional journals, including but not limited to "Organic-Soluble Liquefaction Catalysts" and "The Analysis of Aqueous Sediments for Heavy Metals." Additionally, he obtained three patents and earned research grants through the National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, United States Department of Defense, and the United States Department of Energy. Due to his outstanding achievements, he won the Percy L. Julian Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers, various distinguished service and alumni awards from his alma maters, the White House Initiative Faculty Award for Excellence in Science and Technology, the Albert Einstein World Award of Science Diploma and the Ruby W. Hilliard Memorial Professional Achievement Award.
