Dr. McCord is a retired general surgeon who formerly spent 30 years in private practice in Dallas. Retiring in 2016, he spent nearly six decades in medicine. Some of Dr. McCord's noteworthy positions included serving as a section chief of general surgery at Medical City Hospital in Dallas and assistant chief of surgery at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was also affiliated with a group practice in Clifton, Texas, and was previously in private practice in Hamilton, Texas. Additionally, Dr. McCord lent his expertise as a consultant in surgery at Hamilton General Hospital and De Leon Hospital in Texas.
An alumnus of Abilene Christian University, Dr. McCord received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1949. Continuing his studies, he achieved a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas in 1953. Additional educational pursuits include the completion of an internship at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and a residency in surgery at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. Dr. McCord is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He notably served eight years in the U.S. Navy between 1954 and 1962, serving to lieutenant commander.
Dr. McCord is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Dallas County Medical Society, the Dallas Society of General Surgeons and the Flying Physicians Association. Residing in Dallas with his wife Barbara, Dr. McCord is the father of four children and grandfather of one grandchild. In his spare time, he enjoys being a flight instructor.
