With more than 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Timmerman has been a self-employed HVAC and energy consultant since 2012. He was a senior energy engineer with Sebesta Blomberg & Associates Inc., now NV5 Sebesta, from 2010 to 2012, a senior performance engineer with AtSite Solutions from 2008 to 2010, and an energy manager with Parsons Brinckerhoff Dewberry from 2007 to 2008, where he was a mechanical engineer from 2006 to 2007.

From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Timmerman was a mechanical engineer with Carter & Burgess, and from 1999 to 2000 he was senior engineer with DMC Engineering. Acting as a self-employed consulting engineer for energy systems between 1996 and 1999, he previously contributed his skills to Process Facilities Inc. as a senior mechanical engineer in 1996, R.W. Timmerman and Associates from 1977 to 1993 and to R.W. Beck and Associates from 1975 to 1977. Earlier in his career, Mr. Timmerman was a staff engineer with United Engineers & Constructors Inc. from 1974 to 1975 and with Stone & Webster Engineering Corp. from 1968 to 1971, as well as a project engineer with the Monsanto Co. from 1966 to 1968.

Mr. Timmerman holds patents on technology to recycle the reject heat from power plants which is estimated to save 50 million tons of carbon dioxide in the U.S. alone, and which saves enough in fuel costs to pay off the capital investment without subsidies. In developing this technology, he has also been a pioneer in developing district heating technology using low temperature (below 160F) water. Mr. Timmerman has presented a number of papers on this technology at technical conferences.

Prior to embarking on his career, Mr. Timmerman pursued an education at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. First earning a Bachelor of Science from the university in 1965, he went on to obtain a Master of Engineering in 1966. Mr. Timmerman is certified as an energy manager through the Association of Energy Engineers, an LEED accredited professional with the United States Green Building Council, and a professional engineer in the states of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Throughout his career, Mr. Timmerman has been recognized for his contributions, including having been named a Legend in Energy Management by the Association of Energy Engineers in 2018. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the East.
