He has also contributed several articles to various professional journals and has published several short stories on Amazon Kindle.

An alumnus of California State University Fullerton, Dr. Strunk received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1967. He soon after attended the University of California Los Angeles, where he completed Master of Arts in Social Welfare in 1969, Master of Public Health in 1970 and Doctor of Public Health in 1972 as an epidemiologist and hospital administrator. Prior to earning his degrees, Dr. Strunk studied civil engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also served in the military after being drafted into the United States Army, served in the Army National Guard, 441st Field Artillery, and spent 17 years retiring as a captain in the United States Naval Reserve between 1977 and 1994. He was assigned to U.S. Central Command as a plane operations and medical intelligence officer. He was involved with the planning and was recalled to active duty for Desert Storm and sent to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
