An accomplished listee, Ms. Jones celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Accruing 38 years of industry experience to her credit, Ms. Jones has been a school psychologist in the Monroe County Community School Corp in Bloomington, Indiana, retiring in 2004. She was a Star trainer for in-house teacher training and has been noted for her achievements, qualities, credentials and successes she has a accrued in her field. She began her educational career as a primary teacher in Marion, Indiana and in Decatur Township schools in Indianapolis IN., and a contact substitute teacher in San Bernardino City Unified School District in California. Her experience in California led her to her first Masters in Special Education.
Ms. Jones developed and directed the University Preschool for children ranging from 18 months to 7 years with learning and behavior issues. The preschool was open to university programs for experiences in evaluation, teacher training, occupational therapy and early childhood classes for three universities in Indianapolis, IN. She was an evening division lectures in early childhood at Butler University in Indianapolis for 7 years and subbed for the early childhood professors during the summer sessions.
Ms. Jones pursued her formal education at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1965. She was chosen I of 6 individuals out of 400 to receive her student teaching experience with the new multi-age grouping of the Indiana University Lab School located in Bloomington. Since that experience and her work in various schools, she has received her Masters in Education in the area of Special Education and Masters in Science in School Psychology. These experiences led her to advanced master level course work in Counseling and Guidance.
In 1990 and 1991, she was a co-presenter of two research results each year in the dean's Occupational Therapy Research Conferences. During her university and educational school experiences, she participated in her research presentations in the 1992 National Occupational Therapy convention in Seattle. Washington. Other publications have been in "The Journal of Learning Disabilities" V21, 1988: "Occupational Therapy Practice" (20), 1993 and co¬authored a chapter on "Assessment of Perceptual Motor and Fine Motor Functioning" in 1982. "The Psycho Educational Assessment of Preschool Children".
Ms. Jones' experiences in assessment within the school system imprinted the need for a medical background and training. Each child in special education has a neurological disorder, be it inattention, high level of activity, impulsive behavior, sensory issues, or behavior disorders. She was accepted into the Occupational Therapy Masters level program of Indianapolis University located in Indianapolis. The course work and license gave her the opportunity to work with First Steps, the Indiana version of the early intervention of the Federal Disability Act. The age level for the work is birth to age three. During this work, she received in her caseload children who were born blind. Most of her in-service training was on line with the Hadley Institute for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Winnetka, Illinois.
Since her retirement from First Steps, she has continued working with individuals with disabilities from ages 7 to 26 years old. Her population comprises of individuals on the Autism spectrum and those born of mom's elicit drug problems. Many families in her caseload lack the funds to help their children with their learning issue, which are not so low as to warrant special services in the schools, but are a problem for that child.
Ms. Jones spent many of her summers with educators who enjoy musical theater and wanted the children in their small local community to have access to plays and music. She has been in the following musicals and music groups: The Singing Hoosiers of Indiana University (sophomore to senior year), "Kismet" chorus member with Jordan Music School of IU, back up with the "Hoosiers" in Bob Hope performances, 4 Lads, and other performers. "Bells are Ringing", "Gypsy", "Figerello" and "Bye Bye Birdie" during summers while an undergrad at IU. She starred as the girl in "The Fantastics: and Laura in "The Chalk Garden" during her first year of teaching in theater in the round in Marion, Indiana. The musicals with the local educators included: "The Quilters". "The Music Man" (designed the sets, backdrop and performed), "Cinderella" (designed the backdrop, painted sets, made costumes, and was the wicked step mom), "Hello Dolly" (sets, backdrop, costumes, and designed hats, character -Minnie Fay), "Oklahoma" (painted backdrop and sets, was Aunt); "Nunsense" (an add on Nun-Sister Addendum), and "Into the Woods" (painted trees all summer and was Grannie and the Giant). She painted the backdrop which was 19 feet by 51 feet long for each of the shows in which she was not apart, "The Sound of Music", "Kiss Me Kate" and "You're Good Man, Charlie Brown". Her experiences with theater continue with local high schools helping with costumes in "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "The Sound of Music", "Grease" and sets for "Beauty and Beast" and "Mama Mia!"
Ms. Jones is a figure sculptress, painter in acrylic and water color, and traditional and landscape art quilter. She has received awards ranging from first place, honorable mention, special merit and other awards for her various art styles. The acrylic painting was the technique used to illustrate two children books called the "Little John" series. Ms. Jones currently sings with a group called the "Voices" conducted by Anne Anderson and John Richardson, located in Franklin, Indiana. The 40 to 60 members perform for skilled care centers and support the Historical Museum of Franklin with their performances.
She volunteers two mornings a week with Linda Hazzard (the program director) for horse therapy. The participants are middle to high school level individuals with behavior disorders from two school districts. The groups receive school credit as they learn life, social and problem solving skills with the horses. The program is presented by "Agape" a horse therapy program. Other classes are for rehab of drug addiction adults, receivers of domestic violence, rehab of sex traffic women, and vets with PTSD. A summer program is presented with Riley Hospital for Children called Camp Riley. She is active in her local community in two churches. She is a member of the United Methodist Church of Morgantown Indiana as a member of the church choir and bell choir, on the Worship, Altar Guild, and History committees. She attends Bible Study with the Christian Church of Morgantown under the direction of Fred Priest, a well trained director of the program. She is beginning her time to volunteer for Well Spring, an organization to help those who are homeless regain control of their lives with a place to live.
