With four decades of industry experience to her credit, Ms. Newton held a long tenure as an educator within Fort Smith Public Schools in Arkansas from 1965 until her retirement in 2005. In addition to this role, she served on the elementary council of the Arkansas Department of Education in Little Rock, Arkansas, from 1993 to 1999. Ms. Newton became involved in her profession because of her aunt, who taught first grade for 40 years in a small school district. She would visit her every summer, and she learned a lot from her. She has enjoyed watching many of her students go on to graduate high school.
Prior to embarking on her professional path, Ms. Newton pursued a formal education at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1965. Since graduating, she has gone on to develop curriculum at the state and local levels at various times in her career. Outside of her primary trade, Ms. Newton has served on the board of directors for the Association for Childhood Education International since 1965. The nonprofit organization is a global community of educators and advocates who endorse desirable conditions, programs and practices affecting children, infancy through adult.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Newton has been honored with the State Textbook Committee Award and a Lifetime PTA Member Award. Furthermore, she was selected for inclusion in the fifth and sixth editions of Who's Who in American Education. Now in retirement, Ms. Newton resides in Arkansas with her loving husband of five decades, Albert Lee Newton, with whom she has raised two wonderful children, Penelope and Hunter. She is also a doting grandmother to two beloved grandchildren, Madalyn and Fischer.
