Vivian C. Wolf-Wilets, PhD, RN, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Vivian C. Wolf-Wilets is a retired nursing educator who served the University of Washington in Seattle for most of her career.

Supported by 30 years of practiced experience in academia, Dr. Wolf-Wilets is a retired nursing educator who served the University of Washington in Seattle for most of her career. Commencing her profession as an assistant professor in 1969, a role she held for five years, she became an associate professor in 1974 and full professor in 1982, simultaneously serving as a departmental chair. Retiring in 1999, she was also notable for being a distinguished visiting professor at the University of California San Francisco from 1987 to 1988. A frequent contributor of articles and chapters to professional journals and books, Dr Wolf-Wilets has also been a consultant and speaker at numerous nursing schools and organizations in the United States, China, Norway, Israel, Australia, Japan, and Taiwan.

Alongside her primary career responsibilities, Dr. Wolf-Wilets has extended her time and expertise to the National League of Nursing, where she was a former board review member for the accreditation of baccalaureate nursing programs. She was also a member of several visiting committees throughout the United States, reviewing baccalaureate nursing programs. A fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. Wolf-Wilets was also president of the Washington State League for Nursing.

Dr. Wolf-Wilets was inspired to enter the fields of nursing and academia by her mother, who encouraged her to go into the profession. Earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1960 from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, she subsequently received a Master of Arts from the University of Chicago in 1964 and completed a year of Post-Master's in Nursing fellowship at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Four years later in 1969, Dr. Wolf-Wilets obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Chicago in Education. Her doctoral education was supported by the National Institutes of Health.

As a testament to her work in the profession, Dr. Wolf-Wilets was recognized among the Outstanding Young Women of Washington State and Outstanding Young Women of America in 1971. In 1975 the National council of Higher Education selected her as one of forty national interns for a year program studying the University Administration. Having accomplished much over the years, Dr. Wolf-Wilets is very proud of her students, who graduated and became exceptional professors and authors. In 1980 Dr. Wolf-Wilets was certified as a Bio feedback clinician and worked with clients in the departments of Nurse Managed clinics. Some of her major career focuses were: Stress Management, Nursing Curriculum Research and the Development of Nursing Diagnoses, Adaptions of Memory Theory, Curriculum Theories, and Psychology Theories to Nursing.
