She formally began her career as an English teacher at the Andries Hudde Junior High School in Brooklyn, NY between 1966 to 1967, later accepting the same role with George W. Wingate High School in Brooklyn, NY from 1969 to 1972. Soon thereafter, Ms. Caplan excelled as a Hebrew teacher for the Congregation Beth Jacob in Atlanta, GA from 1975 to 1977, eventually serving the same post with the Congregation Shearith Israel in Atlanta, GA between 1978 and 1979.
Furthermore, Ms. Caplan held the roles of a Hebrew teacher, an English teacher, and an online journal editor between 1982 and 1997. Since 1995, she has found success as a genealogist with Up, Roots! Genealogy Services in Long Beach, NY. Additionally, she has been designated as an editor emerita for LitvakSIG Online Journal since 2009. An expert in her field, she has contributed her knowledge to numerous published articles including, "My Hashava Experience," "1946 Medingen Mystery - and Miracle," "Another Surnamer Surfaces," "Following the Weber Trail of Genealogical Haystacks and Cakes," and "What Does a Litvak Look Like?" Notably, Ms. Caplan has been presented with an award that highlighted her outstanding contributions to student editing and writing in 1988 and 1989.
To remain aware of changes in the field, Ms. Caplan is affiliated with the Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island, the Jewish Genealogy Society of New York and the Association of Professional Genealogists. As a testament to her success, she has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America. Outside of her primary responsibilities, Ms. Caplan enjoys sewing and gardening in her spare time.
