Supported by more than 60 years of practiced experience in music and education, Ms. Cormier is a retired piano teacher who most recently served the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University in Nashville from 1967 to 2001. Prior to this appointment, she was a piano teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina, from 1963 to 1967 and at the Conservatory of Music and Dance at the University of Missouri in Kansas City from 1956 to 1963. During her career, Ms. Cormier also acted as a clinician for the National Piano Foundation for 13 years and has been serving the International Piano Teaching Foundation as a consultant since 1977.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Cormier pursued formal education at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1947. She then went on to attend the New England Conservatory in Boston, receiving a Bachelor of Music in 1950. She concluded her academic pursuits in 1955 after obtaining a Master of Arts from Columbia University in New York City. A member of the Nashville Area Music Teachers Association, she also previously sat on the board of directors of the Tennessee Music Teachers Association from 1981 to 2016. In addition, Ms. Cormier was a contributing editor to Group Piano, Proficiency in Theory and Performance by Karen Ann Krieger, published by Hal Leonard in 2018.
As a testament to her success, Ms. Cormier was named Teacher of the Year and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Tennessee Music Teachers Association in 1988 and 2008, respectively. Notably, she was highlighted in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who of American Women.
