Currently, she serves as a writing consultant operating out of a private practice in Malvern, Pennsylvania. At Conestoga High School, she excelled as a teacher and workshop leader from 1967 to 1976 and the chair of the English department from 1982 to 1991. Dr. Calabrese additionally taught communication and leadership skills at Saint Joseph's University and Cabrini University. Under the auspices of the Francis Group, a local management consulting firm, Dr. Calabrese worked with business executives on writing improvement.
Prior to becoming an esteemed writing consultant, Dr. Calabrese pursued an education with a Bachelor of Arts from Bryn Mawr College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Wesleyan University. She subsequently earned a Master of Arts in English and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Calabrese had a number of mentors, including Dr. Geraldine Murphy, an English professor at Wesleyan University, Dr. George Garwood, the superintendent for the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District, and Cynthia Francis, owner of the Francis Group.
Because of her expertise in the field, Dr. Calabrese has authored a number of published works. She contributed articles to American Business Communication in 2014 and English Journal in 1983. Outside of her career, she has volunteered in her field and community, including teaching courses and seminars on college-essay writing and performing writing workshops at the Government Services Center in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Calabrese has received a number of awards and accolades throughout her career. She was presented with the Decade of Equity Award from the Mid-Atlantic Center for Sex Equity at American University in 1982.
