After working in various fields for more than 40 years, Ms. Concannon retired from her position as the director of the Downtown Business District in Middletown, Connecticut. At the beginning of her career, she served as the chief chemist of Erin Foods/Irish Sugar Company in County Cork, Ireland, and as a research assistant in biochemistry at UCD (University College Dublin). Over the years, she found success in a number of other areas, excelling as a tax consultant and State Representative for the 34th Assembly District of the Connecticut House of Representatives. Being the first Irish-born woman to do so made this a highlight of her career. During her time as Representative, she held leadership roles in several committees, including the Appropriations Committee and the Regulations and Protection sub-committee. Another standout in Ms. Concannon's career was chairing the Connecticut Nuclear Energy Advisory Council during a difficult time in the industry. On behalf of the citizens of the state she made presentations at nuclear energy conferences held by the American Nuclear Society, and the International Atomic Energy Agency at the United Nations in Vienna.
An expert in her field, Ms. Concannon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the National University of Ireland. Subsequently, she raised four daughters in the United States and pursued coursework in accounting at Middlesex Community College which led to tax consulting. During her spare time, she contributes to her community, serving as the chair of the (Nuclear) Fuel Storage Advisory Committee, the treasurer of the East Hampton Democratic Town Committee and the Rotary Club of East Hampton. Previously, Ms. Concannon served on the boards of the Riverview Hospital for Children and Youth, Big Brothers /Big Sisters of Middlesex County, CT, the Middlesex YMCA, the Middlesex County Medical Association Auxiliary, the National Kidney Foundation of Connecticut and the Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council and other organizations.
For her outstanding accomplishments, Ms. Concannon was recognized as an Outstanding Young Woman in America in 1975. More recently, she was Rotarian of the Year in East Hampton. Likewise, she has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in the East. Looking toward the future, Ms. Concannon intends to remain involved in her community.
