Prior to establishing this firm, he worked as a physical scientist and a senior project leader with the National Institute of Standards and Technology from 1982 to 2013, where he also served as the founder and director of the Industry Polymer Interphase Consortium from 2001 to 2007. Earlier in his career, Dr. Nguyen found success as a research chemist with the Atlantic Richfield Chemical Company from 1979 to 1982 and a research assistant with the Richmond Experimental Station at the University of California from 1974 to 1979.
Dr. Nguyen initially pursued an education at Saigon University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in engineering in 1970. He continued his education in the Philippines, earning a Master of Science with the University of the Philippines in 1974. Dr. Nguyen subsequently relocated to the United States, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of California Berkeley in 1979.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Nguyen has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. A fellow of the Adhesion Society, he is a member of the Adhesion Society, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and the American Chemical Society. The former president of the Vietnamese Student Association at UC Berkeley, Dr. Nguyen has authored 265 technical publications, given 175 presentations, and holds nine patents.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nguyen has been celebrated for his contributions to the field. He has been presented with a Joseph J. Mattiello Award, a Roon Foundation Award from the Federation of Societies of Coatings Technology on five occasions, and a Best Paper Award from the Asia Pacific Coatings Conference. He also accepted the Best Paper Award at the Coatings for Plastics Conference, the Best Poster Award at the Adhesion Society Meeting, the Best Paper Award at the European Coating Congress, and the Building and Tire Research Communicator Award. Likewise, Dr. Nguyen has been featured in numerous publications, including Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World.
