Pierre Odier Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Odier has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of fine art and authorship

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 10, 2019, Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Pierre Odier with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Odier celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A true renaissance man, Mr. Odier's career has taken him from business ownership and education to traveling and adventuring around the globe. Born in Switzerland, he moved along with his American mother back to the United States in 1959, whereupon he joined the military and remained in service until 1962. Later he established and owned a nightclub, The End, in Tacoma, Washington, until 1964. He subsequently ran an art gallery, Place des Arts, until 1965, and served concurrently as an interpreter for Weyerhauser Corp. the same year. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Puget Sound in 1967. Reflecting on his abiding passion for the arts, Mr. Odier accepted a position as chairman of the department of fine arts at Hoover High School in Glendale in 1967.

In the course of his appointment with Hoover High School, Mr. Odier earned a Master of Fine Arts from the California State University in 1974, and promptly undertook postgraduate studies at the University of California Los Angeles until 1983. In recognition of his services to Hoover High School, he was the recipient of such honors as the Teacher of the Year Award on behalf of the local Parent Teachers Student Association, and another Teacher of the Year Award from the Glendale Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Odier received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Hostelling International USA, and he was also presented with the Spirit of Adventure Award from that organization in 2010. He served as a member of the Explorer's Club of Los Angeles and he was a two-time president of the Adventurers Club of New York from 1999 to 2000.

Mr. Odier has enjoyed a robust writing career since the 1970s, authoring several well-regarded books on history before shifting his focus to reflect upon his many travels following his retirement from teaching in 2001. Such works include "Some Last People: Vanishing Tribes in Bhutan, China, Mexico, Mongolia and Siberia," published in 2005 and "Cambodia Angkor A Lasting Legacy, A View of Past and Present," published in 2010. Another of his prominent works was "The Rock: A History of Alcatraz, the Fort, the Prison," which was published in 1980. In the midst of his travels, Mr. Odier became the founder and president of the Adventurer Foundation, an initiative to promote cultural exploration, and he personally funded the construction of a school in Siem Read, Cambodia, which services 140 children.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Mr. Odier has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
