Dr. Williams excelled as an educator for more than 40 years

    DURHAM, NC, July 11, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Dr. Williams with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Williams celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Now retired, Dr. Williams excelled as an educator for more than 40 years. Recognized as a professor emeritus by Duke University since 1993, he previously served as the aforementioned university's chairman of the department of English between 1982. Between 1957 and 1993, he held a number of posts at Duke University, including as an assistant professor of English, an associate professor, and a professor. Dr. Williams began his career as an assistant cashier at the Carolina Savings Bank in Charleston, South Carolina, from 1949 to 1954.

Dr. Williams further remained active as the director of the summer institute program of the Commission on English for the College Entrance Examination Board in 1962, the president of the Durham Savoyards Ltd. between 1966 and 1968 and 1981 to 1982, a historiographer for the Diocese of South Carolina from 1960 and 1978, and a visiting professor for the United States Military Academy between 1982 and 1983. A successful author and editor, his published works include "Image and Symbol in the Sacred Poetry of Richard Crashaw," "The Craft of Printing and the Publication of Shakespeare's Plays," "Shakespeare's Speech-Headings," and "Dramatic Works of Beaumont and Fletcher," to name a few. Graduating from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1947, Dr. Williams subsequently earned a Master of Arts in 1949 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1957 from University of Virginia.

Civically, Dr. Williams served in the European Theater of Operations with the United States Army between 1943 and 1945. For his service, he was presented with the Decorated Combat Infantry Badge, and the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal from the Department of the United States Army. Likewise, he accepted a fellowship with the Guggenheim Foundation between 1977 and 1978, as well as the Huntington Library in 1981. A member of the Modern Language Association and the president of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association. Dr. Williams maintains his affiliation with the Southeastern Renaissance Conference, the South Carolina Historical Society, the Saint Cecilia Society, and the North American Guild of Change Ringers, among others.
