Previously, he was active as an assistant attorney general for the State of Alabama from 1961 to 1962. Mr. Nettles excelled as a partner at Johnston, Johnston & Nettles from 1962 to 1969, Nettles & Cox from 1969 to 1981 and Nettles, Barker, Janecky & Copeland from 1981 to 1989. Likewise, he was a partner at Spain, Gillon, Grooms, Blan & Nettles from 1989 to 1994, London & Yancey from 1995 to 2003 and Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker LLC from 2003 to 2014. Ms. Nettles presently serves as counsel for the Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association.
Mr. Nettles served as second lieutenant in the United States Army from 1960 to 1961 and as a captain in the Infantry Reserve from 1960 to 1967. Prior to becoming an esteemed lawyer, he pursued higher education at the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in 1958 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1960. He was admitted to practice law in the state of Alabama in 1960. Mr. Nettles has contributed a number of articles to professional journals.
Apart from his career, Mr. Nettles volunteered in his field and community. He was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1969 to 1974 and the University of South Alabama Health Services Foundation from 1985 to 1989. Further, he was the assistant chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama from 2000 to 2003 and the chancellor of the Episcopal Diocese of Central Gulf Coast from 1983 to 1988.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Mr. Nettles remains informed of the changes and advancements in his industry through relevant organizations. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar and the American Right of Way Association. Additionally, Mr. Nettles was the president of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association from 1986 to 1987.
In light of his many achievements in the field, Mr. Nettles has received a number of accolades throughout his career. He received the Exceptional Performance Citation from the Defense Research Institute of the American Association for Justice in 1987 and he was named to the Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Nettles has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
