Now retired, Mr. Haab had flourished as a company executive for more than three decades. At the beginning of his career, he was associated with Price Waterhouse in Saint Louis, Missouri, as a senior accountant, from 1959 to 1965. Soon thereafter, Mr. Haab worked for the Illinois Power Company, where he held the posts of the chairman, the president and the chief executive officer until his departure in 1998.
Moreover, Mr. Haab assisted in Illinois Power paving the way to initiate legislation in Illinois to provide open access for electric suppliers and prevent monopolies. While serving as the chief financial officer for the aforementioned company, he orchestrated the development of a nuclear power plant, which was rather expensive. Mr. Haab was proud to have been responsible for financing the plant in a time where short term interest rates were as high as 20 percent.
Other professional endeavors to Mr. Haab's credit include participating as a member of the board of directors for a number of organizations including the First National Bank of Decatur, Decatur Memorial Hospital, Electric Energy, Inc., and the Energy Assistance Foundation. Additionally, he contributed as the chairman of the Decatur Community and InDecatur Ventures LLC, as well as a trustee for Millikin University. Mr. Haab worked as the president of the alumni board at Millikin University in 1981, and was involved with Macon County Mental Health Board.
A graduate of Millikin University, Mr. Haab earned a Bachelor of Science in 1959. For his attendance at the institution, he was presented the Alumnus of the Year Award and was inducted into the Millikin University Hall of Fame. Additionally, Mr. Haab is a certified public accountant in the state of Illinois.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Mr. Haab was affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Metro Decatur Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Country Club of Decatur.
