Mahmood Tabatabai, MD, PhD, Celebrated for Years of Dedication to the Fields of Medicine and Education



Dr. Mahmood Tabatabai is currently in biomedical research related to Physiology and Anesthesiology.

    PHILADELPHIA, PA, July 16, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mahmood Tabatabai, MD, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A veteran educator and medical professional, Dr. Tabatabai is currently in biomedical research related to Physiology and Anesthesiology. He served as Chairman of the Department of Physiology of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran, Professor, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, Acting Chairman, Department of Anesthesia, VA Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA, and Chairman, Department of Anesthesia at the North Philadelphia Health System Hospitals, Philadelphia, PA. He also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Iranian Journal of Medical Sciences 1973-1977.

Dr. Tabatabai earned the Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 1963, and a PhD in Physiology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969. He did his Anesthesiology Residency Training at the Yale University Hospitals in New Haven, CT 1979-1982. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).

Dr. Tabatabai has more than 70 research articles, review articles, and book chapters, and more than 80 research abstracts.

He is a current or past member of a number of professional Societies and Organizations including American Society of Anesthesiologists, International Anesthesia Research Society, Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), Educational Council of the International Union of the Physiological Sciences (IUPS), the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Association of University Anesthesiologists (AUA).

Lauded for his achievements in the field of medicine, Dr. Tabatabai has been presented with numerous accolades such as a Recognition Award from the Iranian Ministry of Science and Higher Education in 1963 for graduating as the top physician in his class, and Research Awards through the Ministry in 1974, and 1977.

Though his career has been suffused with highlights, Dr. Tabatabai is particularly proud to have simply done the best he could for as many people as he could. His avocations include playing tennis, horseback riding, swimming, jogging, reading and listening to the news, and watching movies.
