DOVER, DE, July 16, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Alban William Urbanas, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Urbanas celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With over 40 years of accomplishment in academia, Dr. Urbanas is a respected professor of philosophy and French language at Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, where he has taught since 1990. He grew up in a bilingual family, and was strongly encouraged by family and colleagues to pursue his dream of a career in academia. A talented linguist, he fell in love with the French language during a high school trip, and moved to France at age 21 to study at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1976. Dr. Urbanas remained in France until 1982, working as an adjunct professor of English at the University of Paris and completing his Doctor of Philosophy under the mentorship of Professor Pierre Aubenque at the University of Paris-Sorbonne.

Upon returning to the United States, Dr. Urbanas served as an adjunct assistant professor of philosophy at Georgetown University and as adjunct professor of philosophy and French at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. from 1985 to 1986. Between 1986 and 1989, he taught both philosophy and French at Franklin University Switzerland, where he had the opportunity to undertake advanced study of ancient Greek civilization, which was a highlight of his career. He cites this period of study as something that made it possible for him to travel to the Institute for the Advanced Study at Princeton University to meet Harold Cherniss, who was a major influence on him. After a visiting appointment in philosophy at Colby College, Dr. Urbanas returned to Paris in 1990 as a visiting professor of French at New York University in Paris, before attending George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, graduating with a Master of Business Administration in 1994.

Contributing a number of articles to professional journals, Dr. Urbanas also authored the book "La Notion d'Accident Chez Aristote," which was published in 1988. He has been the recipient of a title grant from the Institute of Lithuanian Language and the Ministry of Culture of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1986, a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1991 and a fellowship from the Jesse Ball duPont Fund in 1992 and 1996. Appointed as a moderator at the Aspen Institute in 1997, Dr. Urbanas has also been a consultant to the American Council on Education and the Distance Education Accrediting Commission since 1998.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Urbanas has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
