Now a professor emeritus, Dr. Machann has led a successful career as an educator for nearly five decades. His most recent position was as a professor of English with Texas A&M University in College Station between 1976 and 2017. Prior to this engagement, he served as a teaching assistant for the University of Texas at Austin from 1971 to 1976, having previously worked as a teacher for the Houston Independent School District in Texas between 1969 and 1971. In addition to his primary responsibilities, Dr. Machann also sat as the chair of the board of directors for the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas from 1995 to 2019, and served as a Fulbright lecturer at Charles University in Prague during 1990.

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Machann pursued an education at Texas A&M University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. Following this accomplishment, he concluded his studies at the University of Texas at Austin and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in 1976.

Recognized as a respected voice in the industry, Dr. Machann's written works include "The Genre of Autobiography in Victorian Literature," "Matthew Arnold: A Literary Life," and "Masculinity in Four Victorian Epics." He has additionally utilized his expertise in Victorian literature and Czech American studies to contribute as an editor for the publications, "Czech-Americans in Transition," in 1999 and Kosmas: Czechoslovak and Central European Journal, from 2000 to 2012. Dr. Machann is also a member of the Modern Language Association. In light of his exceptional undertakings, he has previously been featured in Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in America.
