A respected nurse and public speaker, Ms. Thayer parlays her decades of knowledge in nursing to others through a variety of speaking engagements. Since 1996, she has delivered more than 900 speeches on the benefits of laughter and countless presentations on other topics in 25 states and Canada. Additionally, Ms. Thayer contributes to her community through the Elysian American Legion Auxiliary, local churches and 4-H clubs.

Prior to becoming a public speaker, Ms. Thayer worked as an administrative supervisor for the Saint Peter Regional Treatment Center from 1990 to 1996, an assistant administrator for the Rice County District One Hospital from 1977 to 1989, and in numerous academic positions for Mankato State University between 1966 and 1977. Earlier, she served as an instructor at Alton Memorial Hospital from 1963 until 1966 and as both an education director and an evening nurse supervisor for Fairmont Community Hospital in the early 1960s. Ms. Thayer began her career as a nurse for Bethesda Lutheran Hospital and the University of Minnesota Hospital in the late 1950s.

Certified as a nursing administrator through the American Nurses Association, Ms. Thayer earned a diploma in nursing from Bethesda Lutheran in 1956. Subsequently, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing education from the University of Minnesota in 1960 and a Master of Science in nursing from Washington University in 1966. She concluded her studies at Mankato State University in 1972, graduating with a Master of Science in counseling. Ms. Thayer is active as the Minnesota Organization of Nurse Executives from which she received the Outstanding Nurse Excelsior Award. the Minnesota Nurses Association, from which she accepted a President's Award in 1983.

Utilizing decades of knowledge in her field, Ms. Thayer has co-authored a number of works, including "Celebrating the First Fifty Years," which was written with Mary Huntley and Linda Beer in 2003, and "A Mirthful Spirit: Embracing Laughter for Wellness," alongside Mary Huntley in 2007. In 2009, she published "Feisty Lydia, Memoirs of a German War Bride," which she had authored by herself. Featured in such publications as Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who of American Women, Ms. Thayer has been notably presented with such accolades as an Alumni Award from the National 4-H Club in 1983 and a Women of Distinction Award from the Girl Scouts of the USA in 2007.
