With nearly 45 years of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Flickinger has been recognized as professor emeritus of Radford University since 2016, having worked with the school as a professor and the chair of media studies from 1998 to 2006 as well as the director of the graduate program for Corporate and Professional Communication from 1996 to 1998. Prior to these positions, he found success as a senior marking consultant with RKM Corporation from 1990 to 1993 and both a studio operator and an instructor with Clatsop Community College from 1975 to 1988. Dr. Flickinger began his career an assistant chief engineer with KUSC-FM from 1972 to 1974 and as a station engineer with KAST-AM-FM from 1974 to 1975.
Dr. Flickinger initially pursued an education at Kalamazoo College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. He continued his studies with the University of Southern California, receiving a Master of Arts in 1975. He subsequently completed an Associate of Science from Clatsop Community College in 1985. He concluded his academic efforts at the University of Oregon with a graduate teaching fellowship in telecommunications from 1988 to 1990 before graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1993.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Flickinger has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the IEEE, the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Communications Society, and the American Radio Relay League. Moreover, Dr. Flickinger has served as a visiting professor with American University of Bulgaria, and a visiting assistant professor with Lewis and Clark College.
Throughout his career, Dr. Flickinger has been celebrated for his exemplary contributions to the field. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Media and Commination, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
