James Baar has become an authority in his industry and currently serves as president and managing consultant of Omegacom Communications in Providence, RI.

With more than 60 years of experience in communications as an author, public relations executive and journalist, Mr. Baar has become an authority in his industry and currently serves as president and managing consultant of Omegacom Communications in Providence, RI.

As a journalist and PR executive, Baar covered the politics and technology of the Cold War at its height, the Space Race from its beginning and the worldwide growth of information technology.
His career in communications follows his family tradition started by his great grandfather, Albert Frank, a German banker who pioneered financial advertising and financial news bureau service in New York beginning in 1872. Frank's wife and Baar's great grandmother was the Countess Angelika von Wurtemberg.

Baar began his career in 1949 as a reporter on the Troy, NY, Record; moved on to the United Press in Albany, NY, New England and Washington, DC, and became Senior Military Editor of Missiles and Rockets Magazine. In his subsequent business career he has been Chief Operating Officer of four major public relations agencies: Hill & Knowlton Advanced Technology, Gray-Strayton, Creamer Dickson Basford and Lewis & Gilman. He also was Corporate Communications Officer of Computervision, Managing Director of General Electric's European Communications Operation and manager of various GE PR operations in the United States.

Baar is the author of non-fiction and fiction including "Conversations at the Redwood: The Portraits Speak," "Trump Card: Holding America's Enemies at Bay," "Spinspeak II: the Dictionary of Language Pollution." "Combat Missileman," and "But Wait! There's More! (maybe)"; three novels, "Ultimate Severance," "The Great Free Enterprise Gambit," and "A King for America"; and a short story collection, "The Real Thing and Other Tales." He is editor of "the Spinspeak Letter" website.

Baar has lectured on communications and the plague of spinspeak as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University and as guest lecturer at a number of colleges including NYU, Babson, Boston University, Pennsylvania (Wharton) and SUNY.

During his career, Baar has been an active member of the Public Relations Society of America, the National Investor Relations Institute, the American Counselors Academy, the National Press Club, and the Overseas Press Club. His memberships also have included the board of the English Speaking Union in Boston and the overseers board of the New England Academy of Music, the Union Club in Boston and the Hope and University Clubs in Providence.

Baar was graduated from Union College with a major in philosophy in 1949. He was born in New York City in 1929 the son of Marguerite Rascovar Baar and A. Woolner Baar . He married Beverly Hodge in 1948. They have one son, Theodore Hall.
