Prior to this engagement, he served in a lengthy tenure with Lockheed Martin, a company with which Mr. Payton has been associated since 1982. At the beginning of his career with the aforementioned company, he worked as the associate engineer, further progressing to the post of a scientific programmer between 1984 and 1985. After contributing to Lockheed Martin as the senior scientific programmer for a year, Mr. Payton became their senior programming analyst from 1986 to 1990.
As he continued to flourish with Lockheed Martin, Mr. Payton found success as a scientific programming specialist for six years, before accepting the role of a staff engineer between 1996 and 1999. From 1999 to 2002, he was active as a consulting software engineer, later concluding his time with the Lockheed Martin as their principal software engineer between 2002 and 2011. Outside of his primary endeavors, he has lectured at the University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University. A creative writer and artist, Mr. Payton's works have been featured in collections at PARC, Amnesty International, and Space Imaging Inc.
Initially pursuing an education at the College of San Mateo in California, Mr. Payton earned an Associate of Science from the aforementioned school, summa cum laude, in 1980. Furthermore, he obtained a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from San Francisco State University in 1982. An exceptional Marquis listee, Mr. Payton has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in America.
In recognition of his creative pieces, Mr. Payton has been the recipient of numerous regional and statewide accolades. He is the proud holder of over a dozen patents in field and has provided his research to more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
