Richard Albert Loretz Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    OLD LYME, CT, July 20, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Now retired, Mr. Loretz accrued nearly 40 years' professional experience, having most recently served as the fuel marketing manager for the Westinghouse Electric Co. from 2013 to 2018. Prior to attaining this role, he contributed his skills to Westinghouse as fuel customer project manager and the fuel business manager. Beginning his career as a nuclear physicist with Combustion Engineering Inc. in Windsor, Connecticut, in 1980, he progressed to senior and then principal nuclear physicist before the company was acquired by Asea Brown Boveri in 1993. He remained with Asea Brown Bover and achieved the positions of supervisor of nuclear programming and supervisor of reload design before the nuclear division of the company was purchased by Westinghouse in 2000.

Mr. Loretz recently co-authored the article "Innovative RCCA Design: Product Design Improvements with Simplified Utility Change Control," which was published in the Nuclear Plant Journal in 2017. Earlier in his career, he spent time as the vice president of Tau Beta Pi from 1978 to 1979. Civically, Mr. Loretz has been incredibly active with the Boy Scouts of America, donating roughly 25 years as a den leader for Pack 96 and a leader, an Eagle Scout adviser, the advancement chair, and a committee member for Troop 96.

Before embarking on his career, Mr. Loretz pursued an education at the Polytechnic Institute of New York, now known as the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering in 1979. Following this accomplishment, he went on to complete a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge in 1980. In an effort to remain abreast of developments in his field, Mr. Loretz maintains affiliation with the American Nuclear Society and Sigma Xi.

Notably awarded a Westinghouse fellowship via the American Nuclear Society from 1979 to 1980, Mr. Loretz received a number of honors and accolades over the years. He considers the absolute highlights of his career to be the work he conducted with neutronics computer codes to improve reactor analysis capabilities and the customer service work he supported in nuclear fuel sales. In light of his many achievements, Mr. Loretz was featured in the first edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
