Dr. Wolbers is a celebrated engineering psychologist of more than 40 years. Aligned with McDonnell Douglas in Huntington Beach, California, between 1974 and 1991, he served as a deputy director of flight crew systems and chief systems engineer of advanced space systems. Dr. Wolbers was previously affiliated with the Douglas Aircraft Corporation as chief program engineer of space systems in Huntington Beach and chief of systems research in El Segundo, California, from 1954 to 1974. In the field of human factors engineering, Dr. Wolbers lent his expertise as the vice president of Psychological Services, Inc., in Los Angeles for six years beginning in 1948 before moving in another direction.

In academia, Dr. Wolbers was an adjunct professor in the department of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Southern California. He taught on campus for more than three decades. During his career, he also contributed multiple articles to various scholarly journals in his area of expertise. He continues to serve as a consultant for NASA in Washington, DC, since 1988.

Dr. Wolbers received a Bachelor of Science from the California Institute of Technology in 1946. He soon after attended the University of Southern California, where he attained both a Master of Arts in 1949 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1955. He is a licensed psychologist in the state of California. Prior to entering college, Dr. Wolbers served active duty in the U.S. Navy between 1943 and 1947. He then served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for another four years, retiring in 1951 as a naval lieutenant.

A fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, Dr. Wolbers notably served as the organization's Orange County chapter president during 1989. He is also a member of the division of applied experimental and engineering psychology of the American Psychological Association and a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Sigma Xi and Psi Chi. Dr. Wolbers was on the U.S. Air Force Science Advisory Board from 1991 to 1996.
Dr. Wolbers received an Engineering Merit Award from the San Fernando Valley Engineers Council in California in 1988. He later received a Meritorious Civilian Service Medal from the United States Air Force Scientific Advisory Board in 1995. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in the 24th through 26th editions of Who's Who in the West.
