Dr. Hans J. Fecht is a chaired professor in the faculty of engineering science, computer science and psychology at Ulm University and the director of the Institute of Functional Nanosystems.

Dr. Fecht is a chaired professor in the faculty of engineering science, computer science and psychology at Ulm University in Germany and the director of the Institute of Functional Nanosystems. Previously, he was active as a chaired professor of materials science at the Technical University of Berlin from 1993 to 1997 and a professor of metal physics at Augsburg University in Germany from 1990 to 1993. Dr. Fecht currently serves as the director for approximately 50 graduate, doctoral and postdoctoral students in the field.

For over a decade, Dr. Fecht has lent his expertise as an overseas professor at Anna University in Chennai, India, an adjunct professor at the World Premier International Research Center with Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, and a visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. He has also been named an honorary professor at the Hefei University of Technology in Hefei, China and South China University of Technology, Guanzhou, China. In addition to his academic career, he has been the office director for Eureka Cluster Metallurgy Europe, an international non-profit organization, since 2015. Furthermore, Dr. Fecht has been active as a chair, advisory committee member and organizer for several international conferences, workshops and symposia, has managed several national and international projects in the fields of materials science and nanotechnology, and has served as a panel chair for several industry-related events.

Renowned for his research in the design and production of advanced materials, Dr. Fecht has published over 500 scientific papers. He has served as the European editor for the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, on the editorial board for Annals of Materials Science & Engineering and NPJ Microgravity, as the regional editor for the American Journal of Nanotechnology, and as the associate editor for the International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Nanotechnology.

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Fecht pursued an education at Saarland University, where he graduated with a Diplom-Ingenieur, a traditional engineering degree generally equivalent to a master's degree, in 1981. Continuing his studies with the university, he completed a Doctor of Philosophy in 1984 under the guidance of professor H. Gleiter. Dr. Fecht concluded his studies as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and as a senior research associate at the California Institute of Technology, USA.

An elected fellow and member of the Max Kade Gesellschaft in New York, Dr. Fecht is also active with the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. In 1998, he was notably awarded a G.W. Leibniz Award from the German Research Foundation. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Fecht has been featured in the 10th through 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 27th through 32nd editions of Who's Who in the World.
