Celebrating 50 years as an educator, Dr. Fincher is a tenured foreign language teacher at the Cherokee County Schools in Gaffney, South Carolina. Hired in 1984, he simultaneously took on several other teaching roles at area schools, including The Village School in Gaffney and the Union County Schools in Union, South Carolina. Experienced in teaching Latin, French and English at the academic level, Dr. Fincher has also taught a variety of courses at Converse College, Limestone College, the University of Alabama and Birmingham-Southern College. He is notably fluent in English, Latin, German, French, Greek and Spanish.
Dr. Fincher's long and distinguished career has included serving as a developer of the English as a Second Language Program and the Foreign Language in the Elementary School program at the Cherokee County Schools. He has also lent his expertise as a member of several Department of Education state committees in South Carolina. Volunteering his time, Dr. Fincher was a translator for the Hispanic community for many years. He was also the editor of the 1994 book "Ceasar's Bellum Helveticum."
An alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Fincher first acquired a Bachelor of Arts in classics, with honors, in 1967 and a Master of Arts in classics in 1969. He then attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in humanities in 1979. He is a licensed teacher in North Carolina and South Carolina.
Dr. Fincher is a member of several professional organizations. Some of these include the National Education Association, the Carolina Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, the South Atlantic Modern Language Association, the American Association of Teachers of French and the American Association of Teachers of German. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Fincher was featured in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
