An accomplished listee, Dr. Shaw celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Shaw, a celebrated figure in nutrition, began her career as a dietitian at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1959. Soon after she followed with a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1965 and 1969, respectively.

Involved in numerous civic activities throughout her career, Ms. Shaw was especially involved in her church. An elder at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Missouri, for nearly 15 years beginning in 1974, she has since served in the same capacity at two Presbyterian churches in Greensboro since 1992. Further, she has been active as a board member of her local YMCA for several years.

Dr. Shaw has been a member of several industry-related organizations. Some of these include the American Society for Nutrition, the American Board of Nutrition and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
