Dr. Geoffrey William Grant has been recognized as associate professor emeritus of South Dakota State University since 2006.

With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Grant has been recognized as associate professor emeritus of South Dakota State University since 2006. Prior to his retirement, he was an associate professor with the university from 1981 to 2006, having been an assistant professor since 1977. From 1972 to 1974, he was an instructor at Iowa State University, and from 1970 to 1972 he was an assistant professor at Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. Earlier in his career, Dr. Grant was an instructor with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1965 to 1967.

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Grant pursued an education at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1964. Following this accomplishment, he joined the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, completing a Master of Arts in 1967. Dr. Grant went on to conclude his studies with a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1980.

A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Grant has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the Midwest Sociological Society, the Great Plains Sociological Association, the Brookings Area Human Resources Association and Alpha Kappa Delta. Active in his community has well, he has contributed his skills to the boards of the South Dakota Habitat for Humanity, the Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity, the Council for Emergency Services and the University Child Learning Center. The former president of the Brookings Commission for Human Rights, Dr. Grant is presently a member of the Brookings Council of Emergency Services.

Throughout his career, Dr. Grant has been recognized for his contributions. First honored for his accomplishments with a Blue Ribbon from the Owasa Art Committee in 1989, he was later presented with the Dorothy and Eugene T. Butler Jr. Human Rights Award in 2000, the South Dakota Board of Regents Award of Emeritus in 2008 and the Brookings Mayor's Award in 2009. More recently, he was the two-time recipient of the Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity Certificate of Appreciation Award in 2014 and 2018 and the Carroll University Award for Community Service in 2019. Dr. Grant has previously been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in the Midwest.
