An accomplished listee, Dr. Summers celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. With more than 50 years of experience in science education and mental health consultation, Dr. Summers has become an authority in his industry and currently serves as a mental health consultant at a private practice for the Florida Department of Education. He has also held a private psychotherapy practice for individuals and families since 1993. He excelled as the assistant principal, dean and science teacher at Chiefland Middle School from 1968 to 1970. Previously, he was active as the chairman of the science department at Howard W. Bishop Middle School from 1970 to 1971 and a teacher at Gainesville High School from 1971 to 1986. Likewise, he worked as an adolescent group counselor at Gainesville High School from 1987 to 1993 and as the chairman of student services at Westwood Regional Middle School from 1994 to 2003. Moreover, Dr. Summers served as an instructor of adult education at the Alachua County School Board from 1974 to 1978 and a guest lecturer for the Department of Counselor Education at Rollins College from 1988 to 2006.

Prior to becoming an esteemed professional, Dr. Summers pursued higher education with an Associate of Arts from Palm Beach Junior College (now known as Palm Beach State College) in 1966. Attending the University of Florida soon thereafter, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in education in 1968, a Master of Education in 1973 and a Specialist in Education in 1989 and a Doctor of Education in 1944. Dr. Summers is presently a licensed Medicaid provider, a licensed mental health counselor in the State of Florida and a diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association. In the past, he received a Family Mediator Certificate from the Florida Supreme Court in 2004, a guidance and counseling teaching certificate from the State of Florida from 2003 to 2008 and a Disaster Mental Health Services Certification from the American Red Cross in 1998. Dr. Summers authored "Introduction to Economics" in 1988, as well as a number of other published works. He was mentored and inspired by his godmother, who encouraged his love for education and reading.

In his free time, Dr. Summers enjoys scuba diving and raptor rescue. The proudest moment of his diving career was working as a research member on a 60-day government-sponsored scientific expedition to the Galapagos Islands. He married his wife Carla McGrath Summers in 1993 and has one daughter.

Apart from his career, Dr. Summers volunteered in his field and community. He is currently a member of the Rotary Chief of Gainseville and the Florida Defenders of the Environment. In the past, he sat on the board of directors of the Artisans' Guild Gallery from 1984 to 1987 and at the Sister Cities Program of Gainesville, Inc., from 1980 to 1989. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Summers remains aware of the changes and advancements in his industry through relevant organizations. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and Phi Delta Kappa. Similarly, he was a member of Chi Sigma Iota from 1988 to 1989. In light of his many achievements in the field, Dr. Summers is featured in the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest and active in the Rotary Club of Gainseville.
