Prior to this engagement, he found success as a partner with James F. Logan, Jr. and Associates from 1985 to 1992, having previously worked as a senior partner at Logan, Bates & Bass in Cleveland, Tennessee, between 1980 and 1985. Mr. Logan began his career as an associate with the Finnell, Thompson & Scott law firm in Cleveland, Tennessee. Mr. Logan immediately progressed to the post of partner of the Finnell, Thompson & Scott law firm in 1972. In 1980, Mr. Logan opened his open practice as Senior Partner of the law firm of Logan & Bates. This practice continued until 1985 when the law firm became known as James F. Logan, Jr. and Associates. In 1982, the firm expanded to maintain a partnership for several years and ultimately becoming known as Logan-Thompson, P.C. which is a thriving multi-disciplinary law firm in Southeast Tennessee.
In addition to his primary endeavors, Mr. Logan served as a member of the board of directors for the Federal Defender Services Inc., the Tennessee Judicial Selection Commission, and the United States Magistrate Selection. An expert in the field, he has presented in numerous seminars for various professional organizations in the legal field including the Trial Advocacy program and qualifying as an expert witness in courts in Tennessee. For his achievements in the field, he was recognized as an AV-rated Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell. Likewise, Mr. Logan has been selected for inclusion in an edition of Who's Who in American Jurisprudence.
Mr. Logan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee in 1968 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1970. Subsequently, he was admitted to practice law by the Tennessee Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee in 1971. Logan has practiced before various district courts and been primary counsel pro hac vice in various states. In the 1990s, Mr. Logan initiated and his firm participated in class action litigation against the then unregulated pay day loan industry in several states.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Mr. Logan maintains his affiliation with the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Association for Justice. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and other attorney related organizations. Mr. Logan has enjoyed singing in his local choir and participation in numerous civil and political activities.
